There is a fine crack at the upper and lower tang. The matching checkered walnut butt stock is in good condition showing some light scuffs and scratches.

The checkered walnut forearm is in good condition with dings, scratches and finish wear from use. The matte blued receiver is in good to very good condition showing some light edge wear with scratches and some widely scattered dots of freckling. The barrel is marked with a “P” and an ordnance bomb. The parkerized finish on the barrel and magazine tube is in good condition with some scuffs and scratches. The barrel is choked Cylinder with a 2-3/4” chamber.

The action does not work, the hammer seems to hit half and full cock notches, but there is no spring tension. Original carbine rear sight and fixed front sight. Very good inspector’s cartouche on the left side wrist. The walnut stock and forearm are in good condition with scattered dings and finish wear. There is a screw missing from the breech area with one screw broken off in the receiver both are for the sling bar, which is missing. The receiver is a gray patina with some light surface rust on the hammer and trigger guard. The finish on the barrel and barrel latch appears to be an old re-blue which has again rusted. Manufacture’s name is illegible but appears to be “MANUFACTURED BY AM’N M’CH’N WKS”. Marked on the left side breech “ADDRESS POULTNEY & TRIMBLE, U.S.A.”. The bore is good, mostly clean with some light corrosion in the grooves.

Rifle appears to be complete except for the rear sling attachment.ġ2American Machine Works Model Smith Carbine The plain walnut stock and handguard are in good condition with some minor marks from use. It is installed backwards and is missing the actual bolt cover. There is a rod attachment clipped to the chamber area marked “WH Co” it is part of a mud cover used in the trenches of WWI to keep mud out of the action. There is also some scattered dots of light freckling and the finish is starting to turn brown. The blued metal finish on the barrel and receiver looks like it was re-finished years ago. Appears to be mostly matching with only the mid-band mis-matched. The bore is very good to excellent, clean with strong rifling. 8mm Mauser caliber bolt action rifle with a 29-1/2” barrel.
